About Ali
I am an allied health professional who has worked in various roles in the health and community sectors for over thirty years.
I understands the challenges of staying well in a sector that often depletes our physical, mental and emotional energy.
Sòlas Yoga's mission is to improve your life through tailored, mindful movement and breathing practices designed to regulate the nervous system and cultivate a lasting sense of presence, equanimity, and calm.
Drawing on themes of compassion and loving-kindness, I provide accessible tools to help you navigate daily challenges and release the physical and emotional depletion often experienced by those in high-pressure roles working with vulnerable populations.
My story
My early experiences caring for family lead me first into the nursing profession and then into social work. I have worked as a disability carer, registered nurse, social worker, and care coordinator in large acute-care hospitals, community disability teams, donation-funded charities and NGOs.
Throughout all of this, I have returned to yoga and mindfulness practices to keep me well and to enable me to show up for the people I work for and with.
I understands the challenges of staying well in a sector that often depletes our physical, mental and emotional energy.
Growing up in Sydney and living in London for a period, I am now happily settled in the Gold Coast region of south-east Queensland with my husband, children and cats. My personal wellbeing practice encompasses yoga, strength training, swimming, connecting with friends, seeing live music, reading, sewing, knitting and pottering in my garden.
My study and practice
My journey with yoga started over thirty years ago with a high school fitness class and is now central to my wellbeing practice.
An Introduction to TCTSY weekend workshop was pivotal to my decision to complete a yoga teacher training program, and I achieved this goal by completing 350-hour trauma-informed yoga teacher training with Jala Yoga.
I have received formal training in the Ashtanga yoga tradition however my practice is best categorised as post-lineage and draws on many yoga teachers and traditions.
I am a Registered Yoga Teacher (Level 1), hold a Mental Health First Aid Certificate, Master of Social Work (Qualifying), and a Bachelor of Nursing. I have over thirty years of experience in the health, community care and charity sectors. I continue to work part-time in the health sector.
I have completed a 350-hour trauma-informed Yoga Teacher Training, a qualification recognised by Yoga Alliance Australia-International.
Yoga has been part of my personal wellbeing practice for decades.
